Maybe it’s true that it’s the middle of stories that count the most, but we also love knowing about how stories started and set the stage for the beauty to come. Here, local couple Taylor and Tyler Michelson share the story of how their love began, as well as the wisdom they have learned as they start their married lives together. May their story encourage you to continue on in your chosen path in life as we live as witnesses to love.
Hometowns: Taylor is from Cape Girardeau, and Tyler is from Kirkwood, Missouri. The couple resides in Kansas City, Missouri.
How We Met: We met during the summer of 2014 through mutual college friends. I had just transferred back home to attend Southeast Missouri State University to finish my freshman year of college, and Tyler was staying in Cape over the summer. We were both at Greek life events celebrating the end of the year when we met and had an immediate connection. We were inseparable all summer and dated for five years before tying the knot in Cape Girardeau on November 23, 2019. It was so fun to get married in my hometown where we met and had all of our college memories together! I am an alumna of Alpha Xi Delta, and Tyler is an alumnus of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Being involved in Greek life at SEMO definitely helped us meet each other and create a lot of our memories throughout the years.
About marriage
He says: Marriage has taught me to be more selfless. We are a team in everything, and that is the most important thing to remember.
She says: Remember that you are a team! Being able to communicate, make decisions together and compromise are all a part of a healthy marriage. Focus on what is important, and put each other first.

A wedding day is possibly the only time a bride and groom will have the entire support system of relatives and friends together in a room to celebrate their union and wish them well; to be entrusted with recording that culmination of a lifetime of joy is an honor. So many emotional moments and reactions happen in such a short span of hours, I consider my job to include being hyper-aware and professionally engaging, making sure we stay on track with the real purpose of the day — getting two people married!”
