We’ve all been there: We do something that’s not as graceful as we might have hoped, or something doesn’t turn out the way we imagined it. It happens to the best of us. Here, seven women offer up their embarrassing moments, in solidarity.
On a nice day, I was practicing my cartwheels. Soon, on my second to third one, my shoes flung around everywhere. Then, I realized I was wearing the wrong shoes. But I didn’t think that was a problem until one of my shoes fell right in front of me, and then I fell. — Alexis Peterson
When I was in high school, a floral pair of underwear fell out of my hoodie sleeve onto the gym floor in front of the entire senior class. One of my classmates pointed it out, which signaled everyone to curiously stare at my underwear as I scrambled to pick them up and shove them in my hoodie pocket. When the salutatorian mentioned it in his graduation speech, it was slightly embarrassing, but mostly, it spoke to the reality that high school was a time to be vulnerable, not perfect. — Erin Urhahn
One time, I was texting my mom about this surprise I was planning for my best friend, and I accidentally sent the message to said friend! — Ahnisti Long
There’s nothing more embarrassing than being on stage in front of a crowd, starting a song and immediately realizing I’m playing in the wrong key. Then, having to apologize to the audience, laugh it off and start the song again. I’ve learned, both personally and professionally, that failure is a part of growth. Failure has taught me humility, compassion, patience, endurance and wisdom. I allow moments that feel like failure to fuel my determination to try again. True failure is accepting defeat; as Thomas Edison once said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” — Jessica Keele
Remember Tripp Pants? I had a pair. Long, heavy black fabric with chains and belts going down the sides, a reflecting skull on the butt pocket, and me, a young dweeb thinking I looked SICK. While walking through the junior high cafeteria showing off my new outfit with the entire school present, a friend stepped on the back of my pant leg, and I fell face-first to the floor. I had just tripped in Tripp pants. I saw the humor, but those pants never saw the light of day again. — Jennifer Goodman
One time, I flew to the wrong state to photograph a wedding. I went to the Jackson Hartsfield airport in Atlanta instead of the Jacksonville, Fla., airport. I stayed up all night, shot the wedding, and had to go straight back to Atlanta the morning after the wedding. — Hannah Ratermann
Made the mistake of choosing skiing for a second date with a guy from high school, something I had never even attempted before. We get to the top, and to save my life, I cannot keep my skis straight, I’m falling over, little kids are passing me by like professionals. I ended up walking back down in my socks and my skis in my hands. Never tried to ski again, so embarrassing! — Stephanie Brooks
