June 2022 marks 100 years since the grand opening of the Cape Girardeau Public Library. To go with our kick-off celebration on June 15th, here are some books to help celebrate the milestone anniversary. Here’s to 100 more!

Andrew Carnegie by David Nasaw: This biography looks into the life of the man who gave a lot of what he had to libraries, their foundations, and their meaning within the community. So why is he important to us? Well, Cape Girardeau Public Library is a Carnegie Library.

History of the Carnegie Public Library: Cape Girardeau, Missouri: This book is actually in our Genealogy room here at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. But just because it can’t be checked out, doesn’t mean it can’t be read or looked at. So come see us here and look into this book for yourself!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald: Fitzgerald is most known for his roaring twenties hit, The Great Gatsby. But in 1922, the same year that the Cape Girardeau Public Library was opened, he released The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The story of a baby born as an old man who grows young.
