Here are some modern gothic tales to give you the right amount of thrills and chills this Halloween season.

Weyward by Emilia Hart: This story follows three strong women (Kate, Altha, and Violet) during three different time periods: 2019, 1619, and 1942. Each has their own struggle both internal and external but each finds the magic within themselves to stay strong and keep going.

The Ancestor by Danielle Trussoni: Bert Monte’s fairytale inheritance seems to be a dream come true until the dark and disturbing secrets begin to unravel around her. Instead, mesmerizing glasses of champagne on first-class flights give away to abandoned villages and missing children. It appears that her family has monsters on monsters lurking in closets.

Little Eve by Catriona Ward: The Adder is coming – A mysterious monster that lurks beneath the waters on the Scottish isle of Altnaharra – and one of the flock will inherit his powers. Each of the family awaits the honor, but Eve will do just about anything to make that power hers. But something she didn’t account for – murder and a man desperate enough to get to the bottom of it.

Reluctant Immortals by Gwendolyn Kiste: What if instead of succumbing to the monsters in the dark, you actually became one? This is what happened to Bertha, Mr. Rochester’s wife in the attic, and Lucy, Dracula’s first victim. They survived, but did they really? Desperate to escape their monsters but unable to fully be free, the two find comfort together battling their demons both real and internal.
